Quick answer
Tradition Locksmith serves the Town of Sewall's Point, the residential peninsula between the St. Lucie River and the Indian River Lagoon in Martin County. We install and rekey deadbolts, fit smart locks and gate keypads, help with high-security brands where the key system allows it, and handle lockouts. We are about 10 to 14 miles away and quote your total before driving out.
In a town like this, lock work is mostly about control: who has a key, who has a code and how to change that fast. Lockouts happen, but much of the home lock work here is upgrades. People want better deadbolts, a keypad on the side gate, a smart lock they can manage from out of state or a rekey after a change in staff.
The town is almost all houses. Its own history counts about 825 residences, and Census estimates show nearly every home is a detached single-family house. More than 9 in 10 occupied homes are lived in by their owners. The town has worked to keep it that way. In 1970 it turned down a plan for apartments and shops at High Point, and it still describes itself as a small, family-oriented residential community.
The median age in the 2020 Census was about 57, and close to a third of residents were 65 or older. If a house manager, caretaker, cleaner or family member needs a way in, a good lock setup makes that easy without handing out a pile of keys.
Local knowledge
Sewall’s Point is a small town on a peninsula in Martin County. The St. Lucie River wraps its south and west sides and the Indian River Lagoon runs along the east. Captain Henry Sewall arrived in 1889 and gave the point its name, and the town was chartered on June 12, 1957. Town Hall is at 1 South Sewall’s Point Road.
We are 10 to 14 miles from central Port St. Lucie, usually a 20 to 25 minute drive. Depending on where in town you are, we come down through Jensen Beach to the north end of the point, or through Stuart and over the Evans Crary Bridge on A1A. A1A then crosses the Ernest Lyons Bridge east to Hutchinson Island.
Waterfront homes between two rivers.
A high-security lock is built so its keys are hard to copy and its insides are harder to work open. A regular Kwikset or Schlage deadbolt uses one row of pins. Anyone with a blank and a key machine can copy that key. High-security locks add a second layer the key has to get right, and the key blanks are often protected by patents.
Here is how the three brands people ask about most actually work:
What we do here
Every service below is mobile. We bring the tools and parts to your door, driveway or parking lot in Sewall’s Point.
Locked out of a house, car or business. Damage-free entry first, proof of ownership every time.
Deadbolts, knobs, sliders and storm doors fitted and repaired at your home.
New pins so old keys stop working, or new hardware when the lock is worn out.
Keypad and Wi-Fi deadbolts fitted, aligned and set up with your codes.
Remote head keys, flip keys and push to start fobs, programmed on site.
Storefront and office locks, closers, panic bars and staff change rekeys.
Master key systems, keypads and fob readers for offices and rentals.
If your home already has Medeco, Mul-T-Lock or Primus cylinders, tell us the brand on the phone, and text a picture of the key face if you can. Some restricted key systems can only be cut or changed by the dealer that set them up. If yours is one of those, we say so on the phone instead of charging you for a trip.
About 60 homes in town sit empty for part of the year, by Census estimates. These setups help while you are away.
Give the house manager, the cleaner and the pool service each their own code. When someone leaves, you delete one code and nothing else changes.
A Wi-Fi or app-connected smart deadbolt lets you add or remove codes from your phone. That only works if the home’s internet stays on while you are gone.
Even a good smart lock has a dead battery day. Keep a keyed cylinder on it and store one key with someone you trust, not under a pot by the door.
A keypad lock on the pedestrian gate lets service people reach the pool or yard without getting into the house.
Levers are easier than round knobs for hands with arthritis or when you are carrying bags. Most deadbolt and keypad sets come with lever options.
Call and we will quote the total before we drive out. Sun to Thu 7am to 11pm, Fri 7am to 5pm.
Address, what is wrong and the lock brand if known. We give the full price on the phone.
Before we open any door, we need proof of ownership. If the owner is away, the easiest path is for them to be reachable by phone or to send written permission ahead of time.
Look for our marked van. The technician hands the manager their ID before starting.
Entry starts with damage-free methods, and every option is explained before a lock is changed.
Have the manager write down which doors now share a key and which codes changed. The owner then has the same picture, even from out of state.
About 71 percent of the town’s area is water, so damp, salty air is part of life here. Run through this before you leave.

FAQ
It depends on how your key system was set up. Some restricted systems are registered with one dealer, and only that dealer can cut new keys or change the pins. Call with the brand and a photo of the key. We will let you know during that call if the job is ours or if it has to go back to the original dealer.
Yes, once we confirm you approve it. We ask for proof of ownership before opening any home, so plan to be reachable by phone or send written permission. The technician shows ID to your manager when they arrive, and we try damage-free entry first. You both hear the total price before we drive over.
No. We work on the lock side of gates: keypads, fob readers, keyed gate locks and deadbolts. Gate motors, openers, sensors and intercom wiring belong to a gate company. If your gate keypad has stopped working and the motor still runs, that part is often something we can help with.
It can be, mainly for key control. If many people have passed through your home over the years, a restricted key system limits who can make copies. For most homes, a well-installed standard deadbolt plus a smart lock with separate codes for each person covers daily needs. We can talk through both before you spend anything.
Call a week or two before you arrive or leave, so the work fits your dates. Our days are Sunday through Friday, with Friday ending at 5pm and no Saturday hours. If you are not in town yet, your house manager can meet us once you have given permission.
Usually, yes, if the locks share a brand and keyway. We rekey them to one key, or set up a master key so staff open only the doors they need. Restricted high-security cylinders may need the original dealer to match. Gate keypads can use the same code list as your smart deadbolts if the brands work together.
