Martin County, west of Stuart
We come down from Port St. Lucie to rekey, upgrade and repair locks in Palm City’s golf and river communities. The price is settled on the call, before the van is even started.
Quick answer
Tradition Locksmith covers all of Palm City, ZIP codes 34990 and 34991, from Martin Downs and Cobblestone out to Harbour Ridge and Piper's Landing. We drive from Port St. Lucie, usually 20 to 25 minutes away. Most Palm City calls are rekeys after a home purchase, smart lock installs, garage entry door locks and lockouts. You get the full price by phone first.
A Palm City locksmith gets more planned work than panic calls. That fits the place. Close to 9 in 10 occupied homes here are owned by the people living in them, according to the Census Bureau, and many sit inside golf and club communities with gates, HOAs and rules. So most Palm City jobs are careful ones: new keys after a home sale, stronger deadbolts, keypad and smart locks for busy families, and garage entry doors that never latched right.
Palm City is in northeast Martin County. Florida’s Turnpike runs along its west side, the South Fork of the St. Lucie River sits to the southeast, and Stuart is just across the Palm City Bridge. Port St. Lucie touches its northern edge. That last part helps you, because we are based in Port St. Lucie. Central Palm City sits about 11 to 16 miles from central Port St. Lucie, roughly a 20 to 25 minute drive.
Local knowledge
The land that became Martin Downs was mostly ranches and dairy farms in the mid 1970s. Then a developer drew up a 2,400 acre plan for it, and its first golf course, Crane Creek, opened in December 1976. The project later took the name Martin Downs. A second course, Osprey Creek, opened in 1982 and was routed around one acre lots. If your house dates from those early years, the door hardware may be just as old, and worn pins and springs make keys stick or turn rough.
Other communities filled in around it. Cobblestone has 238 homes behind its gate. Piper’s Landing is a 600 acre golf community built around a Joe Lee course from the early 1980s, with a private marina near the South Fork. Harbour Ridge covers 885 acres on the St. Lucie River, split into 28 villages of single family homes and condos. It has a Palm City address but sits on the St. Lucie County side of the line. Add Palm Cove, Monarch, Copperleaf, Evergreen and dozens of smaller subdivisions, and you get a lot of gates, a lot of HOAs and a lot of big homes with many doors.
Getting around is simple. State Road 714, known here as Martin Highway and Martin Downs Boulevard, runs across Palm City and meets I-95 at exit 110 and the Turnpike at exit 133.

Yes, and do it before you unpack. You have no way of knowing how many keys the last owner gave out. Think about the pool service, the cleaner, the lawn crew, a neighbor who checked on the place during hurricane season, and the lockbox used for showings. Rekeying changes the pins inside your current locks, so every old key stops working. You keep your handles and deadbolts and get a new set of keys that only you control.
For most homes, a rekey costs less than new locks and takes less time. The typical range is $95 to $150 for the first lock, service call included, and $25 to $50 for each extra cylinder. Your exact total is quoted on the phone before we drive out. If you would rather switch to new hardware, compare your rekey and lock change options.
What we do here
Every service below is mobile. We bring the tools and parts to your door, driveway or parking lot in Palm City.
Locked out of a house, car or business. Damage-free entry first, proof of ownership every time.
Deadbolts, knobs, sliders and storm doors fitted and repaired at your home.
New pins so old keys stop working, or new hardware when the lock is worn out.
Keypad and Wi-Fi deadbolts fitted, aligned and set up with your codes.
Remote head keys, flip keys and push to start fobs, programmed on site.
Storefront and office locks, closers, panic bars and staff change rekeys.
Master key systems, keypads and fob readers for offices and rentals.
Large Palm City homes often have more keyed locks than owners expect. A quick walk around the house makes your phone quote accurate.
The best setup gives each person their own way in. Homes here average about 2.5 people, and about one in four Palm City workers works from home, so the front door gets used all day.
Give each child, grandparent and sitter their own code. When the sitter moves on, you delete one code. Nobody else has to change a thing.
Kids coming home from Bessey Creek, Citrus Grove, Palm City Elementary or Hidden Oaks can punch in a code instead of carrying a key that goes missing by October.
If clients or delivery drivers come to the house, a keyed or keypad lock on the office door keeps laptops and files away from visitors.
We install common smart deadbolts from Schlage, Kwikset and Yale and help connect them to the app you already use. The typical range is $125 to $225, and your exact total is quoted on the phone before we drive out.
It is the door most families stop locking. Once the big garage door rolls up, anyone standing in the garage is out of sight from the street. In Florida that door often has a second problem. A closed garage gets very hot all summer, and over the years the door and frame shift a little. The deadbolt stops lining up with the strike plate, it gets hard to turn, and people quit using it.
The fix is usually small. We can adjust or move the strike plate, replace a worn deadbolt, or put in a keypad deadbolt so you can lock it without hunting for keys. If you come and go through the garage every day, this is the best door in the house for a keypad. Our residential locksmith page covers the rest of the home lock work we do.
Call and we will quote the total before we drive out. Sun to Thu 7am to 11pm, Fri 7am to 5pm.
They can. If your home is in an HOA, its rules may cover changes to the outside of the house, and that can include the style and finish of your front door hardware. Before you buy a matte black smart lock for a street where every door has a bronze handleset, check your HOA documents or ask the property manager. Rekeying changes nothing anyone can see, so it should not need approval.
Gated communities add one more step, because our van has to get through your gate. When you book, tell us the community name and how guests get in. Then add Tradition Locksmith to your guest list or let the gatehouse know we are coming. That saves a wait at the entrance.
Tell us your community, how many doors, and what hardware is on them now. A photo of the lock helps.
You get one total during the call. No surprise fees at the door.
Add our name to your guest list so the van is not stuck at the entrance.
We arrive in a marked van and show ID. Before opening or rekeying anything, we ask for proof that you own or live in the home.
Before we leave, we try each new key in each lock with you.
We try damage-free entry methods first and give you the price before we drive. We work 7am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 7am to 5pm Friday, and we are closed Saturday. Read how our lockout help works.
Palm City borders several of our other service areas. Across the river, we cover all of Stuart. Just to the northeast is North River Shores. To the north, where Palm City meets St. Lucie County, you are almost back at our base in Port St. Lucie. If you want to compare costs before you call, our pricing page lists typical ranges for every service.
FAQ
Yes. We go to gated and guard-gated communities all over Palm City. When you call, give us the community name and the gate we should use. Then add Tradition Locksmith to your guest list or tell the gatehouse to expect a marked van. That way the technician is not stuck at the entrance while you wait.
Central Palm City is about 11 to 16 miles from central Port St. Lucie, which is usually a 20 to 25 minute drive by I-95, the Turnpike or local roads. Traffic and time of day change that a little. We give you an honest arrival estimate when you call, along with your total price.
It should not. Rekeying only changes the small pins inside the lock, so the outside of your door looks exactly the same. HOA rules usually cover what people can see, like handleset style or finish. If you plan to replace hardware or add a keypad on the front door, check your HOA documents first.
Usually, yes. Most smart deadbolts from Schlage, Kwikset and Yale come in common finishes like satin nickel, bronze and black. Send us a photo of your handleset when you call, and we will tell you which models come closest. That matters most in Palm City communities where the HOA reviews outside changes.
Often you do not. In many homes the door or frame has shifted a little over the years, so the bolt rubs on the strike plate. Adjusting or moving the strike usually fixes it. If the lock itself is worn out, we can replace it or fit a keypad deadbolt and quote that before any work starts.
Yes, for most makes and models. We cut and program transponder keys, remotes and smart keys. German makes are off our list, so no BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche or Mini. Have the year, make and model ready and we can price the exact key.
